Ubuntu for education
With no licensing fees and the freedom to share as and when you like, Ubuntu is perfect for schools, universities and colleges everywhere. In education, free is only good if the product is secure, effective, reliable, quick to install and straightforward to use. Ubuntu is all of these things and more.
"The Ubuntu-based PCs are of huge benefit to the students of Assam. They have all the educational programmes they need – from word processing to spreadsheet creation – and it's all ready to go from day one."
MK Yadava, Managing Director, AMTRON

Ubuntu and education
Ubuntu offers several solutions for the education sector. Ubuntu Desktop Edition is easy to deploy in schools and at home. The educational desktop for Ubuntu is an add-on selection of packages that provide learning applications for pre-school, primary, secondary and tertiary levels as well as a range of tools to help teachers and parents manage these systems.
Key features include:
- The entire Ubuntu Desktop productivity suite, multimedia and collaboration applications.
- Educational software including Gcompris, a suite of over 80 learning and skill-building activities for children aged four to 10.
- Tux 4 Kids Edutainment Suite, a collection of high-quality software for maths, painting and typing.
- Applications for parents and educators to help provide a safe learning environment.
Learning without barriers
Teachers, students and parents are free to use, copy, share and install the same great software on any computer. Ubuntu is a complete solution for immediate productivity and learning. There is no steep learning curve for beginners and users moving from other operating systems will find an intuitive, familiar environment.
Teachers, students and parents benefit because:
- The same great software is available at home and school for free.
- Updates and upgrades are included.
- Additional free software applications are available immediately on install.

Key benefits include:
- Reduced costs for large-scale deployments including fully customisable editions.
- Time and resource savings on licence administration.
- Local language support.
- Free upgrades.
