Team members include leaders from the Gnome, Linux, Debian and Bazaar open source projects, helping us to stay at the forefront of the rapidly changing open source software world. Mark Shuttleworth – Founder, Ubuntu Mark founded the Ubuntu project in 2004 and continues today as an active member of the Technical Board and the Community Council. He studied finance and information technology at the University of Cape Town, and went on to found Thawte, a company specialising in digital certificates and internet privacy. He sold Thawte to US company VeriSign in 1999, and founded HBD Venture Capital and The Shuttleworth Foundation. He moved to London in 2001, and began preparing for the First African in Space mission, training in Star City and Khazakstan. In April 2002 Mark flew in space, as a cosmonaut member of the crew of Soyuz mission TM34 to the International Space Station. Jane Silber - Director OperationsJane joined Canonical Ltd in 2004, prior to the first release of Ubuntu. Based in London, she currently oversees all business development and operational activities, to include customer support and services, marketing and partnerships, as well as the corporate financial and administrative functions. Prior to joining Canonical, Jane was Vice President of Command and Control Systems at General Dynamics C4 Systems, and her early career included doing artificial intelligence research and product development for Teijin Ltd in Yokohama, Japan. She holds degrees from the University of Oxford, Vanderbilt University and Haverford College.Matt Zimmerman - Ubuntu CTOMatt joined Canonical Ltd in 2004, and currently resides in London. He holds overall responsibility for Ubuntu engineering, including technology innovation, research and development, quality assurance and release operations, and also serves as chair of the Ubuntu Technical Board. One of the first employees at Canonical, he led the team which created the Ubuntu distribution.Prior to joining Canonical Matt was involved in a number of US government departments as well as a number of commerical start-ups. These start-ups included working with homestore.com and co-founding Netrail, a Tier 1 US ISP. Chris Kenyon - Director of Business Development Chris joined Canonical in 2006 and leads the team that work to secure support for Ubuntu by leading software, hardware, business and training partners.Prior to working with Canonical, Chris set up a successful 'Software as a Service' play servicing the European automotive sector. He has also worked on marketing and branding projects for the Omnicom group for the likes of Infineon Technologies, Acorn Computers, Proctor & Gamble and UBS.Steve George - Director of Support and Services Steve guides the development of Canonical's commercial services. Based in London, he focuses on the sales, marketing and product development of Canonical's commercial support offering and specialist engineering services. Previously, he worked in the Internet industry in a range of marketing, product management and technical roles. Jon Melamut - General Manager, Ubuntu MIDJon leads the team responsible for working with ODMs, OEMs, Operators and other commercial organizations that want to bring mobile Internet devices to the consumer market using Ubuntu Mobile. Canonical’s Mobile Internet Device team customises Ubuntu Mobile for its clients to include software and services that enable organizations to create market competitive devices that provide consumers a simple to use, full Internet experience. In previous roles, Jon has held executive and senior sales and business development positions at Pepper Computer, Adobe Systems, Glassbook, IBM and Lotus Development.Jon has a degree in Economics from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.
