Results of the Ubuntu Server Edition Survey
Important notes on interpreting this data
We collected this data from users who requested that we send them a server CD. You can find the survey at at the end of this report. We did not make it compulsory to respond to the data, the user could choose to skip it and his/her response was captured as no answer. We believe that about 24% of people did this (12,000 of the 50,000 respondents) but we have left their non-responses in for full disclosure.
We did not ask for the much larger number of downloaders of Ubuntu Server Edition to fill in the survey. We interpret this as making it likely that this survey undercounts:
- users in countries with pervasive broadband
- users in larger organisations
The data does run slightly contrary to other indicators of where the larger numbers of our users are located which is why we draw this conclusion. However, the data set is so large, even with these caveats, it is a valid indication of where large
number of users are using Ubuntu Server Edition, in what industries and for what purpose.
Therefore we would like to share it with the growing number of Ubuntu Server users.
